RAISING young people is hard enough, but for some mums it can turn out to be a competition.

Two-thirds of mums admit to boasting about their kid, from skills like walking to accomplishments at school.

Four in 10 admit they were jealous when others appeared to be coping better with motherhood.

Australian Breastfeeding Association national spokeswoman Carey Wood stated new mums were heavily influenced by their peers.

“There’s incredible pressure to have a ‘good’ baby. Plenty of women say it’s like a competition,” she explained.

“I had one woman ring me and burst into tears, saying ‘My friends all tell me I have to stop breastfeeding … but I don’t want to’.”

The Raising Young people Network web site mentioned mums require to understand babies grow and develop at “tremendously different” rates.

Sisters Emma Bangay, 36, and Jill Brown, 45, have each reason to compete with each other – they both have two youngsters about the same age.
